The member-elect for the Okigwe North Federal Constituency in Imo State, Hon. Engr. Obinna Onwubuariri, has indicated intention to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) in order to save his mandate in the state.
He won the House of Representatives seat on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defeated the APC candidate, Hon. Matthew Omegara.
Political analysts posit that Onwubuariri’s decision to pitch tent with the APC may not be unconnected with his plans to prevent Omegara from going to the elections tribunal against him.
Hon, Onwubuariri who is referred to as a ‘political son’ of Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, was allegedly accused of working against the PDP during the just-concluded re-run elections in the April 25 Governorship & State House of Assembly Elections in the state.
In a similar development, the House of Assembly member-elect for Isiala Mbano State Constituency, Lady Joy Mbawuike, has also indicated intentions to join the APC.
The woman who got elected in the supplementary elections in the area in the April 25 elections stated that she would not stand any opposition against Araraume. She, however, did not adduce reasons for her planned decision.
Meanwhile, Lady Mbawuike, has paid a courtesy visit to the distinguished senator at his Owerri residence.
She stated that she paid him the visit because both of them hail from the same Osuachara electoral ward and therefore, she must visit him.
Mbawuike’s carpet-crossing may result in a political kamikaze and may not go down well with her teeming supporters who had trooped out en masse at Anara on Thursday, April 23, to press for her unflinching support by the people of the area.
The peaceful protesters, mostly youths and woman leaders drawn from the twelve electoral wards and eight autonomous communities in the area had insisted that the lady was their choice for the state assembly seat. Incidentally, she won.
In a related development, chief Ikedi Ohakim, has pleaded with the six PDP lawmakers who made it in the elections from the state not to jump ship, but to remain steadfast and help rebuild the party.
The PDP members-elect include Lady Mbawuike (Isiala Mbano); Emma Orie (Ohaji/Egbema); Obinna Eguh (Ngor Okpala); Mike Iheanaetu (Abor Mbaise); Bruno Ukoha (Ezinihitte Mbaise), and Ichie Ken Agbim (Ahiazu Mbaise).
