Senator Uche Chukwumerije dies at 75.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Education, Senator Uche Chukwumerije is dead. Aged 75, Sen.Chukwumerije gave up the ghost today at the Turkish hospital in Abuja after battling an undisclosed illness.

He was elected Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in April 2003, representing Abia North Senatorial District.  In December 2014, Sen. Uche Chukwumerije was denied the mandate of his constituents to continue the representation at the Senate. He lost out in the PDP party primaries to Hon. Mao Ohuabunwa, a former member of the House of Representatives.

Chukwumerije also served as minister of information in the later days of the military regime . An iroko has fallen. May his soul rest in peace.
