GOVERNMENT OF IMO STATE
PRESS RELEASE
RE: HON IHEDIOHA’S THREAT TO CHALLENGE GOVERNOR OKOROCHA’S VICTORY AT THE TRIBUNAL
Our attention has been drawn to the publications in the media, both print and electronic, credited to the governorship Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the State, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha in which he was quoted to have rejected the result of the governorship election in the State which Governor Okorocha won landslide, and also threatened to challenge the result of the election at the tribunal.
Hon. Ihedioha was also quoted to have refused to congratulate the winner of the election, Governor Okorocha on the ground of the claim he made and also claimed in the reports that the election was marred by irregularities.
First and foremost, let us encourage Hon. Ihedioha to go to the tribunal and we shall meet him there. He shall make his claims and we shall make our Counter-Claims, and Nigerians will then know how he got more than fifty-five thousand votes in his Aboh Mbaise LGA and how he got two-third of his overall votes from the three local governments in his Mbaise area.
It is curious that since the elections began and until the outcome was announced, Hon. Ihedioha never complained of any irregularity. It was the APC in the State that was always shouting that Ihedioha and his Party, PDP, were using security agents and thugs to snatch ballot papers and wrote the results, and they had always enjoyed the cooperation of the Resident Electoral Commission (REC) because he brought him. He never reacted to any of these claims by Imo APC.
Imo APC also petitioned Prof. Attahiru Jega over how the REC declared the election of Saturday, April 11, 2015 inconclusive on the prompting of Hon. Ihedioha and his PDP. He never wrote to INEC or Prof. Jega to complain like the APC did because the whole thing favoured him.
Hon. Ihedioha should also know that at the tribunal he will be asked to produce the booth results from Aboh Mbaise, Ahiazu Mbaise and Ezinihitte Mbaise. Infact, the supplementary election of April 25, 2015 that was properly managed and properly conducted showed that if the election of April 11, 2015 had also been properly managed, Hon. Ihedioha would not have won in any local government.
Hon. Ihedioha and his PDP exhibited the highest level of impunity and brigandage all in an effort to thwart the wish of Imo people in the governorship election. He was the person who rigged massively but his rigging exploit was not enough to give him victory.
It is even surprising to believe that Hon. Ihedioha would ever think that he could beat Governor Okorocha in an election in Imo. On what ground could that happen? The PDP that fielded him have their stories today to tell those who care to listen to them. And his refusal to congratulate Governor Okorocha who defeated with almost one hundred thousand votes only shows the level of his desperation. Out of the twenty-seven local governments, he could lead in three local governments in his Mbaise area after adding the votes from the Supplementary election.
We are waiting to be served of his Court papers.
