Justice Ayo Salami To Replace Prof Jega In INEC.
The indicted former President of Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami (72) is being penciled down by the leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC) to fill the position of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be vacated by Prof. Attahiru Jega on June 28, 2015.
Although Prof Jega is eligible for reappointment but he have declared that he has no interest in serving another term.
Chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC), especially those from the defunct ACN are fighting for Justice Salami to be appointed. They were alleged to have benefited from some of the controversial ruling of Justice Salami, who help them to win some governorship election tribunals cases and he need to be rewarded after he was disgraced out of office.
They will increase their lobbying to convince the President Buhari who is under unbearable pressure, especially since his party, technically lost the leadership of National Assembly.
The APC leaders said that Nigerians will read meanings into the appointment of retired Justice Salami, who was accused of working for their party interest, but concludes that they will strive ensure that he is appointed before the end of June, 2015 when Jega's tenure expires. -
