Sokoto Donates N1m To 20 Flood Victims
Sokoto State Government on Tuesday presented a cash donation of N1million (One million) to 20 flood victims in Adarawa community of Sokoto South Local Government Area.
The money was presented to the beneficiaries by the Director General of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Hassan Maccido, on behalf of Gov. Aminu Tambuwal.
Maccido said that the gesture was not compensation but an assistance to enable them effect emergency repairs on their damaged houses.

”The gesture was advanced to the victims following some recommendations made by a technical committee set up by the state Ministry of Works and the agency.
”The committee had also recommended the immediate construction of drainages in the area sequel to the menace caused by a ditch around the affected area,” he said.
According to him, the proposed new drains are aimed at preventing the recurrence of the disaster.
He also said that five owners of the worst affected houses in the area had to be evacuated to safe place when the disaster struck.
The village head of the community, Alhaji Labbo Ibrahim, commended the state government for gesture, saying that it would go a long way in alleviating the suffering of the victims.
